Rösti is a traditional Swiss dish from the region of Bern. In the past it used to be consumed for breakfast to keep people full, while working out in the field and in the cold weather.
It is prepared by boiling the appropriate type of potatoes, then shredding them, and frying them in butter to form a round flat cake. Often, onion, bacon and cheese are added to the shredded potatoes.
Rösti is usually served as an accompaniment to sausages or other meat dishes.
