On the second Saturday of August, Zurich’s annual Street Parade is currently the biggest techno-parade in Europe and draws hundreds of thousands to a million visitors each year.
This event first took place in 1992 as a demonstration for Love, Peace, Liberty, Generosity and Tolerance (German: Demonstration für Liebe, Frieden, Freiheit, Grosszügigkeit und Toleranz) with approximately 1,000 participants. It quickly developed the character of a big festival, but legally it is still a political demonstration.
The Street Parade usually starts at 13:00 and keeps on until midnight, proceeding for approximately 2.4 kilometres along the Lake Zurich.
