Two paradisiac islands in Switzerland
The Isole di Brissago is actually not just one island but a group of two islands situated next to each other on the Lake Maggiore and located at only 3.5 km from Ascona or 2.5 km from Brissago itself. The smaller island of the group, which is known as Isolino, Isola Piccola or Isola di Sant’Apollinare, has an amazing and dense natural vegetation.
The bigger island is called Grande Isola or San Pancrazio and it is famous for its splendid botanic garden, which covers the whole island. An amazingly wide range of subtropical plants grow there thanks to its particularly mild climate. Here are a few examples of plant and tree varieties on the island: eucalyptus trees, palm trees, bamboo, cypress, ferns, banana trees and many many more. A restaurant as well as shops and guided tours around the botanical garden are available.
Thanks to Lake Maggiore, the climate is very mild and you really think for a second that you are on a paradise island somewhere in the tropics.
