European Organisation for Nuclear Research
The European Organisation for Nuclear Research, or simply called CERN, was founded in 1954 and it is definitely the world’s largest centre for particle physics. This huge laboratory, which even expands over to France, employs the world’s greatest scientists, who unify their force to study the basics of matter and the forces that hold it together. It is very well known for its particle accelerator, a huge and impressive machine spanning over 27 kilometres of circular tube, which collides electrons and positrons to create new forms of matter.
Owing to its popularity, you will have to book your visit to CERN approximately one month in advance, but the three-hour guided tour to the laboratories is free of charge.
